Also identifies St. Peter’s College and St. Paul’s College. Ms text by Charles Jermingham reads: “This is but an inferior engraving, Caeteris paribus, of one of our finest English Catholic Collegiate establishments. Various have been the rumours in respect of its permanency, the founder Bishop Baines having unfortunately involved himself in some pecuniary devilment respecting it. God grant that so fine an institution may struggle successfully through every difficulty, and become a thriving nursery of Christian missionaries for the enlightenment of our bigoted land!”
