On the front Charles Jermingham has written: “The last time I was at Newmarket I slept at its great old fashioned hotel, the Something Arms (?Rutland), being at the time travelling from Norfolk to London with Sir Augustus d’Este and a pleasant evening I remember passing in the fine old fashioned English Inn with poor Sir Augustus who had it in him to be supremely agreeable and fascinating!”.
