The manuscript text below reads: “This lordly looking castle is I believe the property of the Duke of Portland - nature and ancient art seem to have alike striven to produce picturesque grandeur. The first Bentinck was Valet de Chambre to that cold blodded beast William the 3rd. Whence Bolsover passed to the Dutchman”. Some slight ageing and disbound at left margin.
