Unusual use of decorative stationery by a soldier in the 57th Regiment from Arcot to his brother in Suffolk. He describes the march from Fort St. George: “If a beefstake (sic) was put on a rock for one hour it would be nicely done..Cholera brook (sic) out in our Regiment at Arcot.. wee lost 30 one men, one woman and five children by the fatal scourge”. The letter was carried on the P.& O. steamer “Precursor” at the soldiers’ preferential rate of 2d charged on arrival.
